Podge O’Leary, a disabled alcoholic submarine veteran, endures the trials of early sobriety—false prophets, stolen apartments, new friends, old loves, and the slow work of staying alive. The Jumping-off Place encounters themes of addiction, trauma, endurance, and redemption.
